The 2S model is the better brawler with its four missile hardpoints though, and I'd probably keep the 2R lobbing missiles from the backline. The surprisingly strong melee attack can be supplemented by filling the support weapon slots if you so desire.

It's not a tremendously fast mech, so you might be inclined to balance the armament with large lasers, and that's not really a bad idea. Tank up, get some SRM6s and medium lasers on board and get in the thick of it. The Archer also makes an unconventional but effective brawler.

The LRM clustering gives the Archer some serious drilling power to expose structure and bonus damage launchers take full advantage of that effect. When you get improved ++ launchers, favor damage over the crit or stability damage models. Regardless, keep the two LRM20s and you can't go wrong with this thing. Those MLAS are good to shoo away a curious Locust, but it comes at the cost of your next big missile launch. General build advice is to trim the lasers in favor of armour, heat sinks, ammo, or jumpjets according to taste. So congratulations, you're gonna mess up some metal! It's obvious builds are fantastic and it's non-standard builds don't slouch, either. It's missilery suite gives it one of the most effective missile barrages in the game, achieving effect as good as a mech with twice the throwing power. The Archer is one of the best mechs in circulation.
